Jemma Johnson’s new track was pitched to as an Avril Lavigne and Taylor Swift hybrid, but, even without this comparison, “Love Rush” stands on its own as a very catchy, radio-ready tune about the quest for pins and needles. Regardless, since we are already dropping the names of pop sensations, the sentiment in this song is bound to carry the listener off to the beginning of Kelly Clarkson’s career, both in content and ability. While “Love Rush” may not be as spiteful as Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” there is no denying that they belong on the same playlist for scorned lovers.
Please do not be alarmed once its chorus gets stuck in your head– even Mark Pusey, drummer for Ed Sheeran, could not avoid this. In fact, he loved the song so much that he ended up playing on it. Jenna says of her song: “I wrote ‘Love Rush’ when I’d had enough of toxic relationships and needed to have fun and rock out! I felt like I was a kid again going out into the world without any fears and doubts. It’s a big fuck you to heartbreak and a big shout out to confidence and new me attitude.”
Jemma has played shows with the likes of Charlie Simpson, Beth McCarthy, and recently made her debut at Y Not Festival. She “continues to impress and enthrall audiences with her amazing vibe and incredible catchy tunes with their relatable lyrics. She’s a musical force to be reckoned with and a name that you will be hearing a lot more of in the coming weeks and months as she continues on her upwards trajectory.” If you have not yet heard of her, we have a feeling that’s about to change for everyone because “Love Rush” has everything it takes to put Jemma Johnson on the map.
